What does the Law prescribe for Dangerous Goods Drivers?

The National Road Traffic Act and Regulations, as well as incorporated National Standard SANS 10231: 2014, state that drivers of all vehicles carrying Dangerous Goods (over Exempt Quantities per Table C.1 of SANS 10231) must be trained annually by a duly Accredited (TETA) and Registered (NDoT) Training Provider.

'All vehicles' stated above means ALL Goods Vehicles, including  bakkies, panelvans and even small trailers towed by bakkies.

Training provided to drivers is aligned with Unit Standard 123259 and after ZA drivers acquire their Certificate of Competency, they must apply WITHIN 3 MONTHS OF ISSUE DATE at their relevant License Department for a 'Category D' Professional Driving Permit (PrDP-D)

Drivers from the SADEC Region (e.g. Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland, etc) may also attend this training and must produce 'proof-of-training' when so requested by SA Law Enforcement Officers. Our certificates are recognised in all SADEC countries as they have no training available there.

Training of drivers is also available off-site at companies across SA.
